This is the first team almost every new chapter meets. Here is what the route looks like from the outside.
Who can start a Hearts for the Homeless chapter?
Any student group with a university willing to host it and a community that needs the service. Most chapters begin with one or two students; the team handles the rest of the process from there.
How long does it take to open a chapter?
Usually it depends on your university's approval process more than ours. The route runs from an initial enquiry through a virtual training academy and a mentored pilot screening opportunity to full accreditation, and most chapters move through it inside a single academic term.
Does the team cover countries as well as campuses?
Yes. Expansion identifies new regions through demographic research, then builds the relationships with local organisations, clinics and government bodies that a chapter needs before it can operate at all.
What support does a new chapter get?
Structure, staffing guidance, resources and mentorship through incubation, plus the clinical protocol and teaching materials from medical information and brand assets from marketing.
What happens after accreditation?
Day-to-day support passes to national or international chapter operations, depending on where you are. The team stays involved for partnerships and for any regional growth that follows.
How is growth measured?
By clinical impact rather than chapter count alone. The team tracks progress against timelines and targets, evaluates what each new chapter is actually delivering, and manages the risks that come with scaling quickly.

Siva Annamalai
Orlando, Florida · Expansion department
Siva Annamalai is a student at the University of Central Florida who has been involved with Hearts for the Homeless since 2023. He began as a volunteer with H4H Orlando and has since supported various initiatives with H4H International.
Siva first began working with H4H International through a menstrual health education initiative in Sri Lanka. Following this project, he served as the International Chapter Liaison for Juiz de Fora Federal University in Brazil.
Currently, Siva serves as Chief Expansion Officer for H4H International. In this role, he works with student leaders to establish new H4H chapters within the U.S. and internationally. His efforts aim to foster H4H’s sustainable growth to better support underserved communities.

Valory Vailoces, MD
Washington, DC · Expansion departmentValory Anne S. Vailoces is a current transitional year MD resident in Las Vegas. She first joined H4H at the University of Central Florida as a sophomore to aid in hurricane evacuations in downtown Orlando. She has previously served as the Head of External Affairs for both international and national expansion efforts. She also led the H4H Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) team in 2020. Now, she serves as an H4H CGI U mentor and as a National Expansion Director. She hopes to continue helping H4H members grow in their professional development in healthcare and public service.

Expansion departmentHannah is a Biomedical Sciences graduate from the University of Central Florida and a prospective medical student. She has been involved in H4H leadership since 2020, supporting the team as an Expansion Director. Hannah deeply values bringing equity and opportunity to underserved communities across the world.
Hannah enjoys free diving and painting in her free time.
