Joining us

Human resources questions, answered.

Human resources is where almost everyone's involvement with Hearts for the Homeless begins. Recruitment, orientation and onboarding for volunteers in 12 countries run through this team, along with the handbooks and policies that keep 64 chapters working to the same standard. Every volunteer, in every country, is onboarded the same way, whether they are joining a chapter of forty people or a department of four.

How do I volunteer?

Start with the volunteer route on this page. Human resources will match you to a chapter near you if there is one, or to a department that needs your skills if there is not. You do not need a clinical background: roles range from taking readings at a screening opportunity to writing, fundraising, data analysis and chapter administration.

What does onboarding involve?

An orientation to the mission and the protocol, the operational handbook for your role, and an introduction to the chapter or department you are joining. Nobody should spend their first day guessing.

Who do I talk to about a problem?

Human resources, through the confidential reporting route in the policy directory. Concerns are handled under strict confidentiality, with unbiased mediation available where a situation involves more than one person.

What happens when a chapter's leaders graduate?

Succession is planned rather than improvised. Human resources runs the legacy transition process so a chapter outlasts the cohort that founded it, and works with chapter operations on leadership development through the year.

Are these paid roles?

No. Hearts for the Homeless International is volunteer-powered from the executive committee down. What it offers instead is real responsibility early, structured leadership development, and continuous feedback on how you are doing.

Where are the handbooks and forms?

In the policy directory on this page: operational handbooks, organisational bylaws, clinical volunteering guidelines, and the onboarding and administration paperwork chapters need, all in one place.
